The happiest day of my life

At a little bit before 5pm, I went to the workplace of my angel, flautist. I was dropped off at the back of the building by my cousin. From there, I placed a small card that said "I love you" on her steering wheel and something in her glove compartment. And with a rose, I waited behind the building to surprise her as she walked past. At 5:30pm, she finally did and I walked up behind her. Startled, she turned around and her face lit up like the sun and she was overcome with joy when she saw the rose I was holding. I gave her the rose and she gave me a huge hug.

We then went inside her place of employment and I was introduced to her boss and one of her co-workers. I also met two of the kids with whom she works. We walked back out to her car and got inside. She found the card I had placed on her steering wheel and smiled widely. She said, "Oh!!! That's so sweet!!!"

She then began to start her car. I stopped her and said "Now wait a minute..." I then pulled out a ring box from my pocket and handed it to her. I then said, "Open it!" She quickly did so and inside she found a Hershey's Kiss, and on the bottom of the cover it said "Smooch!"

I smiled mischievously and she said "You turd!!!"

We hugged and kissed. She then started her car, and off we went. Driving down the road towards my house, she said, "I'm very hungry."

I replied, "That's good, because we have 6:30 reservations at Lonzerotti's."

"Awww...," she responded.

Having arrived at my house and entered my room, I handed her my stereo remote and told her to hit play. (My room is right through the front door. It used to be our living room but I needed the space.) She obliged and I asked, "Does this sound familiar?"

"Vaguely," she said. "It sounds familiar but I can't figure out who it is."

"Maybe you should change the tracks," I suggested. She followed my advice and skipped to the next track.

"Nope. Who is this??"

"Keep going," I urged.

She finally arrived at track three and her eyes lit up. "Awww!!" she exclaimed. She gave me a huge hug, and I said that it's her CD. "Thank you so much!" She had been wanting the CD for a few months at that point. I managed to come across it earlier this day.

I then asked, "Can I have this dance?" We then slow-danced to the title track of Train's "Drops of Jupiter."

After the song was done, we stopped the CD and flautist went to greet my family. I told her, "Don't come back in until I tell you to."

Curiously, she said, "Okay.." I then locked my bedroom door and quietly snuck out the front door of my house. I got in her car and grabbed the thing I stuck in her glove compartment. As I quickly made my way inside I thought of my excuse for having her wait outside my room. Once inside, I grabbed our bag of Hershey's kisses and quickly spelled out "I love you" on my table.

I opened my bedroom door and had her walk in my room backwards. I then had her turn around and she gave me another huge hug and kiss. She then insisted on going and getting every family member present at my house to come see the sweet thing I did for her.

Afterwards, she lay down on my bed and said "I can't look at you because if I do I smile and my cheeks hurt." Then she kept looking at my smile and then hugging me and then looking at my smile and then hugging me again. It was so adorable. After a little while it was 6:20 so I suggested we be on our way to our reservations.

We got to the restaurant and were seated. Our conversation swayed around to many subjects, but there was a lot of "I love you"s passed around. We held hands nearly the entire time we were waiting for our food. During the course of our meal, I asked flautist, "Are your hands cold?"

"No," she said.

"What about that finger over there?", I said while pointing to her ring finger.

"Maybe a little bit," she said while smiling. "Maybe around here." She was pointing to the area of her finger where a ring would be worn.

"Oh," I said. "This is good food." I smiled.

"Did you think I was going to propose?" I inquired.

"Yes!" she exclaimed.

I laughed. "Is your heart pounding?"

"Yes!"

"Do you think I'm a turd?"

"Yes, you turd!" she said while smacking me.

I laughed and went back to eating.

After our meal I realized that the car didn't have much gas in it so I had to get gas. I told her this and we went to a gas station. I put an adequate amount of gas in the car, then we started on our voyage.

"Where are we going?" she asked.

I didn't remember the way completely so I had to tell her.

"We're going to that one-roomed schoolhouse that's named after your family. I don't completely remember the way, so you're going to have to give me directions."

We proceeded to the schoolhouse and once there, I backed the car into its small parking area. I had her get out of the car and it was a bit cold. We sat on the hood of the car and watched part of the sunset. We had missed most of it since we left the restaurant later than expected. We held eachother to stay warm, and then I started in on one of the most important impromptu monologues of my life; a monologue which I regretfully cannot remember. I do, however, remember the most important part of it, the end, when on one knee I pulled a diamond ring and asked, "Will you marry me?"

"Yes!" she said. I slid the ring onto her finger and we had one of the most memorable hugs and kisses in our lives, lives that will be experienced together.
